Difficult Men

Written by Nathanael Yellis | April, 10 2014

Another great nonfiction read. Many lessons to learn from the revolution in TV. Not the least of which: if I'm so deep into the daily grind of an industry, will I even know if I'm part of a universe-bending trend? (No.)

Difficult Men: Behind the Scenes of a Creative Revolution: From The Sopranos and The Wire to Mad Men and Breaking Bad by Brett Martin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I didn't really know what a writers room was, or what the three golden ages of television were, or why either changed after the late nineties. I did know that NetFlixing series made after the Sopranos is a much better experience than Netflixing those made before (the opposite of movies). This book showed me why.
